Havaianas meets Dolce & Gabbana through four printed surfaces

Animal motifs, maiolica and Sicilian cart references gave the familiar Top sandal a new visual language.

A familiar sandal becomes a different design proposition when its surface carries another house’s references. The Havaianas and Dolce & Gabbana collaboration in 2024 worked through four printed versions of the Top model.

WAYFARER’s June archive divided the designs into two groups. Leopard and black-and-white zebra belonged to the classic motifs, while blue-and-white Italian maiolica and the multicoloured Sicilian carretto supplied the other visual references.

The collaboration therefore joined a Brazilian everyday object with a set of Italian decorative associations. Its distinction lay less in changing the sandal’s recognisable outline than in placing those patterns on an already familiar form.

The account also described a launch involving Malu Borges, Gabriel Leone, Agnes Nunes and Magá Moura. A JK Iguatemi pop-up was scheduled to become a gallery displaying the products, extending the collaboration into a presentation space.
