The countryside supplied Misci with more than a decorative reference. In Tenda Tripa, presented at the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo on 23 April 2024, Airon Martin drew on the world of Brazilian cattle herders and brought it into a collection shaped by collaboration.

WAYFARER’s account described sixty-five looks. The emphasis was on how a regional vocabulary could become contemporary clothing without turning into a costume or a shorthand for national identity.

Collaborators and materials

Artist Jaime Lauriano contributed interventions to the clothes. Denim offcuts and transparent latex brought very different surfaces into the collection. A partnership with Lenny Niemeyer extended the work into swimwear, while Carlos Penna developed accessories with equestrian references.

The material experiments also included beLEAF and a paper tank top made with Papelaria Estúdio de Design, worn by Malu Borges. Their inclusion demonstrated curiosity about what a garment could be made from; it should not be read as independent certification of the collection’s environmental performance.

Leo Almeida and Peter Menezes handled beauty, pairing expressive make-up with more natural hair. The soundtrack moved through forró, funk and work by DJ Ubunto, carrying the Brazilian references beyond the clothes.

Ivete Sangalo closed the presentation and joined Martin for the final acknowledgment. The event was a 2024 show, but its useful proposition is less dated: a Brazilian designer can work from a local cultural field without reducing that field to its most predictable symbols.
