The thirtieth-anniversary remembrance returned to the S/el chronograph and the driver’s enduring watchmaking association.

A watch can become a recognisable part of a sporting image. TAG Heuer’s relationship with Ayrton Senna supplies one such association, revisited in WAYFARER’s May 2024 remembrance of the driver.
The article marked thirty years since Senna’s death. Its account connected the Formula One driver’s racing record with a watchmaking partnership described as beginning in 1988, giving the anniversary a material reference as well as a biographical one.
The S/el chronograph occupied a central place in that account. Rather than treating every commemorative object as interchangeable, the model name gives readers a particular design to connect with Senna’s image and the period represented by the archive.
The report also referred to later limited-edition tributes and the Instituto Ayrton Senna. Those strands show how the memory of a sports figure can circulate through products, public remembrance and educational work.
