An archival selection followed distinct responses to Superfine: Tailoring Black Style rather than treating the evening as one uniform silhouette.

Tailoring at the Met Gala 2025 did not produce one kind of outfit. The theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, and the dress code, Tailored for You, allowed different approaches to personal construction and formal dress.

WAYFARER’s May 2025 account selected looks from the event on 5 May. This adaptation records that historical selection rather than presenting a new ranking of the guests.

Different authors, different forms

Lewis Hamilton wore a custom creation by Grace Wales Bonner. A$AP Rocky appeared in AWGE, while Colman Domingo’s Valentino look used a more theatrical scale.

Rihanna wore Marc Jacobs. The archive connected the appearance with a personal announcement, but the clothing can also be read on its own terms as another response to the evening’s theme.

Kim Kardashian’s Chrome Hearts outfit used a structured black, western-inflected register. Zoë Saldaña appeared in Thom Browne, and Jodie Turner-Smith in Burberry. Each brought a different designer’s language into the same event.

The useful contrast is not simply between restraint and spectacle. Tailoring can define the body’s outline, disturb it or introduce a historical reference through proportion and detail.

The source’s broad claims about flawless styling and exclusive after-parties are not needed to explain the selection. The clothes already show why a shared brief can produce several distinct visual answers.
