Valentino: a firefly image and a simpler silhouette

A 2025 Paris presentation set a literary reference beside familiar garment forms, allowing colour and fabric to carry the complexity.

Alessandro Michele’s Valentino presentation used fireflies as an image of persistence. The literary reference supplied one register of the show; the clothes developed another through familiar forms and carefully chosen contrasts.

WAYFARER’s October 2025 account connected the concept with Pier Paolo Pasolini. This adaptation does not reproduce the source’s direct quotations or claim that Edition conducted the conversation described there.

A clearer base for colour

The opening look paired a gathered peacock-blue blouse with chartreuse satin trousers. Blouses, trousers and pencil skirts gave the collection a relatively legible base, while combinations of fabric, pattern and colour retained Michele’s more elaborate vocabulary.

Chiffon, georgette, velvet and suede changed the surface and movement of those forms. Evening looks used strong colour blocks alongside black-and-white references to the tuxedo.

Pamela Anderson’s spoken performance introduced the presentation, according to the archive. At the end, the models gathered around a lighting sequence that carried the firefly image back into the room.

The source’s declaration that this was the season’s most important show is an opinion, not a conclusion carried into the adaptation. The more useful question is visible in the collection itself: how can a designer simplify the garment’s outline without removing the texture and associations that make the work recognisable?
