Moving lace from a table to a jacket changes more than its use. It alters the way a domestic material is seen, placing familiar craft inside a garment associated with sport or the street.

WAYFARER’s October 2025 account followed David Lee’s SPFW N60 collection through that transformation. The Ceará designer extended his established crochet research towards richelieu lace, working from old tablecloths to develop parkas and sports jackets.

A movement learned elsewhere

Martial arts supplied another reference. The source connected Lee’s name and family background with Bruce Lee, while wide silhouettes, ties and reinterpreted kimono forms carried the influence into tailoring.

Four craftswomen from his home region were associated with the crochet production in the archive. Volumes and motifs were made separately before being assembled, giving some garments a more three-dimensional surface.

The lace shirts and tailored coats made that manual process visible without requiring the clothes to remain within a traditional domestic setting.

The report also described Lee’s work with cultural-institution uniforms in Ceará. Future projects mentioned there are not asserted as completed.

The collection’s enduring subject is the relationship between local technique and a wider set of forms. A material can keep the knowledge embedded in its making while acquiring another life through cut, scale and movement.
