Lilian Camelli: the rooms we carry with us
Between Paraguay and Brazil, a painter turns family photographs, empty interiors and lace into a language of memory.
Reportage / New York
The hotel’s archive programme moved a live musical performance from theatre to guest room.

Changing the size of a room changes the encounter with a performance. Curtain Call, described in WAYFARER’s March 2026 archive, brought Broadway artists into suites at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park.
The account outlined an approximately one-hour presentation by two performers, with a repertoire that could draw on musicals including Wicked, Hamilton, The Lion King and & Juliet. The setting removed the distance of a theatre auditorium while retaining live singing as the centre of the experience.
Light food and drinks accompanied the programme. A meeting with the artists afterwards added conversation to the performance, extending the encounter beyond the final song. The source framed the idea as another way to connect visitors with the city’s musical-theatre culture.
The Royal Suite and Artists’ Gate Suite appeared among the spaces described. Their rooms and views supplied an architectural context, not a substitute for the theatre district nearby. A private setting and a public auditorium offered different readings of the same cultural tradition.
The archive recorded advance booking requirements, but this page does not confirm current availability, performers or repertoire. Its lasting subject is the scale of hospitality: a hotel room becoming a temporary stage, with the city’s established art form brought into a more personal setting.
