A road trip is shaped by the places where movement stops. WAYFARER Brazil’s March 2026 account of Route 66’s centenary read the American travel imagination through hotels and restored buildings.

In Chicago, the Chicago Athletic Association supplied the memory of a former club through stained glass, mosaic and wood. The 21c Museum Hotel in St Louis introduced another kind of reuse, bringing contemporary art into a former YMCA. In Oklahoma City, Bradford House shifted the scale towards a Victorian house and individually composed interiors.

The wider selection extended through the Southwest. Los Poblanos connected hospitality with a lavender-farm landscape, while El Rey Court revisited the motor-court form. Americana Motor Hotel used a more openly colourful retro vocabulary. At the coastal end of the story, The Georgian’s turquoise façade brought Santa Monica into the frame.

These are references from the article’s road-trip selection, not a verified turn-by-turn itinerary or a guarantee of current hotel services. Some belong to the broader regional journey rather than one simple modern road alignment. Together, they explain why the centenary can be considered through architecture as well as mileage. The road supplies movement. The buildings preserve the different kinds of pause that give it meaning.
