An art fair can be read through materials rather than through a list of booths. WAYFARER Brazil’s April 2026 SP-Arte account offered several useful starting points, each asking a different kind of attention from the viewer.

Mary Weatherford’s combination of painted canvas and neon brought a luminous element into the field of painting. Jean-Michel Othoniel’s glass introduced another relationship with light, this time through the substance and arrangement of the object. Neither approach can be reduced to colour alone.

Seba Calfuqueo’s ceramic work connected water with political questions. Flávio Cerqueira’s sculpture gave ordinary gestures a physical presence, while Ayrson Heráclito brought cultural history into the conversation. The fair’s variety mattered most when those practices were allowed to remain distinct.

The source also described Alê Jordão’s use of steel, glass and recovered metal. Marks and previous uses could enter the finished object rather than disappear beneath a polished presentation. These are details from the original coverage, not a new assessment of works currently on sale. Together they suggest a productive route through an expansive fair: start with what an object is made from, then ask what that material allows the artist to say.
