Lilian Camelli: the rooms we carry with us
Between Paraguay and Brazil, a painter turns family photographs, empty interiors and lace into a language of memory.

Beatriz Milhazes brings colour and reflection into the connection between MASP’s two buildings.
FROM THE WAYFARER BRAZIL ARCHIVE / English adaptation. Date shown is the original publication date.

A passage is usually judged by how efficiently it takes someone elsewhere. Pietrolina asks the visitor to remain aware of the journey itself. Beatriz Milhazes’s installation turns the connection between MASP’s buildings into a sustained encounter with colour.
WAYFARER Brazil’s September 2026 account described painted sections alongside gold reflective elements on a blue ground. Across the two walls, the work changes the experience of a space that could otherwise function only as infrastructure. Movement becomes part of the composition.
The title joins references to Lina Bo Bardi and Pietro Maria Bardi, giving the contemporary intervention a relationship with the museum’s history. Milhazes drew an analogy with a carnival parade: individual sections carry their own visual character while belonging to a larger sequence. The corridor gives that idea a physical rhythm.
The architectural passage, designed by METRO Arquitetos Associados, connects institutions across a difficult urban setting beneath Avenida Paulista. The artwork does not disguise that function. It works with it. A person moving between exhibitions becomes, briefly, the viewer of a painting whose scale cannot be taken in from one fixed position. The museum begins again between its rooms.
