A photography workshop is shaped by what happens after the camera is lowered. João Quental’s proposed Cristalino programme joined field excursions with evening reviews, giving the act of editing a place beside the act of looking.

WAYFARER Brazil’s October 2023 preview placed birds at the centre of the workshop, while also describing landscape and macro photography. Those subjects asked for different scales of attention. A distant bird and a small forest detail could not be approached as the same visual problem.

The source described movement between observation towers, river and forest. The setting offered different viewpoints, while the reviews proposed another kind of change in perspective: returning to an image after the immediate encounter had passed. Framing and selection could then be discussed as decisions, not just camera settings.

This adaptation does not advertise an available workshop or guarantee wildlife encounters, weather or conservation outcomes. It preserves the original programme’s most useful structure. Time in the field produces possibilities; time with the photographs establishes which of them carry an image. A journey can become a photographic practice when those two forms of attention are given equal room.
