Lilian Camelli: the rooms we carry with us
Between Paraguay and Brazil, a painter turns family photographs, empty interiors and lace into a language of memory.

The 2025 Magic Roads exhibition used mixed media and an enveloping installation to connect painting with the space around it.

Fernanda Alvarez’s paintings did not stop at the edge of the canvas in Magic Roads. A colour-led installation extended their register into the gallery, making the room part of the encounter.
WAYFARER’s August 2025 account described the artist’s first solo exhibition at White Box, within Rosewood São Paulo and Cidade Matarazzo. Eleven mixed-media works were presented in the historical period from 27 August to 24 September.
Acrylic, oil, resin, graphite, glitter and other materials gave the surfaces different densities. The works were organised around Magic Roads and Innerbloom, with intuition and spirituality among the artist’s stated references.
A rubber duck introduced humour into that field. Its ordinary, recognisable form gave the more abstract surfaces a small point of interruption rather than supplying a complete explanation.
Kleber Matheus’s exhibition design carried colour from floor to ceiling. The archive connected that treatment with the expansive character of the paintings.
Alvarez’s earlier Print Bar, operated between 2017 and 2020, had provided a setting for experiments with customised clothing and accessories. Subsequent public-art and international plans mentioned in the source are not claimed here as completed projects.
The exhibition’s useful subject is the transition between practices: material experimentation from an earlier creative setting entered painting, then moved beyond the canvas into the room.
