Les Gastons Vuitton: jewellery drawn from a collector’s world

The 2024 collection used trunks, puzzles and signet forms as different entries into the house’s history.

A family history can provide a vocabulary rather than a literal portrait. Louis Vuitton’s Les Gastons Vuitton jewellery collection drew on Gaston-Louis Vuitton’s interests, using collecting and curiosity as organising ideas.

WAYFARER Brazil’s January 2024 account described the collection under Francesca Amfitheatrof’s artistic direction. A dark-blue titanium puzzle ring supplied one approach. Signet forms and necklaces supplied others, while references to trunks connected the pieces with the house’s earlier objects.

The source divided the collection into creators, collectors and the curious. Those categories were not simply different materials. They suggested different ways in which someone might relate to an object: making, keeping or investigating it. The jewellery translated those activities into things worn close to the body.

Historic prices and stock statements are not repeated as current purchasing information. The collection’s initial gender framing is also less useful than its forms and ways of wearing. A trunk reference does not have to become a miniature suitcase to remain legible. A puzzle can introduce play without making the piece a novelty alone. The house’s archive becomes a source of structures, not merely a set of emblems to reproduce.
