A warm brown became a shared point of reference for products and interiors in the 2024 announcement.

A colour of the year is a proposed lens, not a rule for how everything should look. Pantone’s selection of Mocha Mousse for 2025 placed a warm brown at the centre of a conversation about materials, comfort and everyday objects.

WAYFARER Brazil’s December 2024 announcement described a tone whose name draws directly on food. That association gave an abstract swatch a familiar sensory reference. Brown could be read through a texture or a memory before it became part of a palette.

The source connected the choice with product collaborations and with Pantone’s preceding selection, Peach Fuzz. The change suggested continuity through warmer tones rather than an abrupt demand to replace one visual world with another. A colour could enter a small object or a room without becoming their sole subject.

This is a historical account of the 2025 selection, not a claim about the current year’s colour. Nor does a company’s interpretation establish a universal psychological effect. The useful design question is practical: what happens when a familiar neutral is treated as an active choice? Material, light and neighbouring colours still decide how that brown is actually experienced.
