Air France La Première: a cabin designed around separate gestures

A cabin changes when one seat is no longer asked to perform every task. Air France’s La Première design, presented in March 2025, separated the chair and méridienne within a private suite.

WAYFARER Brazil’s account described four suites intended for selected Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The neutral palette was interrupted by red and satin-finished metal details, while the winged seahorse supplied a recognisable Air France reference. Five windows gave each suite a long relationship with the aircraft’s sidewall.

The méridienne could extend into a bed, leaving the chair as a distinct place to sit. Curtains defined the perimeter rather than a fully rigid enclosure, and a sliding partition between the central suites allowed their relationship to change. The design therefore considered privacy as something adjustable rather than one fixed condition.

Two screens and a wireless control tablet were part of the presentation, but this article is not a test of their performance in flight. Nor does it guarantee that the cabin appears on a particular current route. It records the design announced in 2025. The central idea is spatial: a small room can become more legible when its different activities are given different places. Sitting and sleeping no longer require exactly the same object.
