A residential reinterpretation of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés address retained its sculptural stair and metal-lined architectural character.

A working interior can outlive the work that first gave it meaning. WAYFARER Brazil’s February 2026 account of Karl Lagerfeld’s former Paris office considered a transformation into accommodation, with architect Pauline Leprince adapting the space without erasing its distinctive visual language.

The Saint-Germain-des-Prés address occupied three levels in an early nineteenth-century building. A restrained palette of steel and ivory connected the new residential use to the futuristic sensibility associated with the original interior. The curved stair remained a central sculptural element, giving movement between floors an architectural presence.

Metal shelving and a tall main room recalled the relationship between books and creative work. Rather than treating that memory as a decorative quotation, the project allowed the library-like structure to remain part of the space’s organisation.

Kitchens and a bar introduced timber surfaces that balanced the metal. Upstairs, a steel frame around the bed, with integrated shelving, continued the idea of furniture as an extension of architecture. A separate second bedroom and lower-level wellness spaces broadened the practical uses described in the archive.

The project appeared within Highstay’s portfolio, but this is not a booking offer or a guarantee of current services. Its interest as an interior lies in the adaptation itself: the space could acquire new routines while retaining the proportions and material contrasts that made it recognisable. Memory was preserved through architecture, not only through the name attached to the address.
