Unplugged: a different rhythm on the Somerset coast
Two timber cabins near Porlock take the British off-grid stay from the countryside towards the water.

At Praia dos Morros de Camaragibe, a small hotel makes its case through the spacing between its buildings and the materials close at hand.

Eight bungalows are the organising idea at Primitivo Hotel & Villas. The number establishes the scale before the architecture supplies the detail. At Praia dos Morros de Camaragibe, on the northern coast of Alagoas, the hotel places a small settlement among coconut palms rather than a large building against the sea.
WAYFARER’s August 2026 account dated the opening to December 2025. It described a stretch of coastline close to the better-known Milagres route, with Atlantic Forest remnants and natural pools exposed by the retreating tide.
The bungalows measured between 94 and 111 square metres, each with its own pool, terrace, bathtub and outdoor shower. Works by Brazilian artists brought a more specific identity to the interiors. Regional construction references and locally sourced materials gave the buildings a connection to their surroundings beyond the view.
The report also described local recruitment and support for forest recovery. These were elements of the hotel’s stated approach, rather than an independent environmental assessment.
Chef Moisés Batista’s menu followed the seasons, interpreting northeastern Brazilian cooking through contemporary techniques. The restaurant faced the water. Beyond it, the account mentioned bicycles, relaxation rituals and boat trips to the natural pools.
The strongest proposition is neither an extensive programme nor a succession of branded amenities. It is a deliberate limit. Keeping the hotel to eight buildings leaves the coconut grove and the distances between rooms to do much of the work.
