Breguet Expérimentale 1: precision as a design argument
A magnetic escapement and a 10 Hz tourbillon bring the manufacture’s research into the visible architecture of a watch.
Reportage / São Paulo
A 2024 retrospective at São Paulo's Jewish Museum connected family history, the runway and the communities that helped shape the designer's work.

Alexandre Herchcovitch’s clothes have always belonged to more than the runway. Family, religious identity and São Paulo’s nightlife supplied overlapping worlds, each leaving traces in the garments.
Alexandre Herchcovitch: 30 Anos Além da Moda, announced at the Museu Judaico de São Paulo in April 2024, placed those worlds alongside one another. Curator Maurício Ianês brought together clothes, accessories, photographs and videos to examine a creative process rather than simply arrange a sequence of seasons.
The exhibition included more than forty looks. WAYFARER’s report singled out a 1993 polyamide jumpsuit made for DJ Johnny Luxo, latex pieces and a Hello Kitty-shaped bag. Five looks from the winter 2012 collection, inspired by religious Jewish dress, were specially reissued.
The biography began with Herchcovitch learning to sew alongside his mother, Regina, who made lingerie. It then extended towards international fashion weeks and the communities that surrounded his work in São Paulo.
Estúdio Campo’s installation covered the gallery walls with family pictures, runway images and editorials. Thirty small monitors showed collections in motion. Clothing was given back some of the social setting a museum display can otherwise remove.
The report described the importance of drag performers, electronic music and queer life to Herchcovitch’s development. Marcia Pantera’s planned opening performance recalled her role in his graduation show.
The retrospective’s argument was not that one identity explained every garment. It showed how Jewish heritage, experimentation and alternative communities could coexist inside a single career. Fashion became a record of those encounters.
