WAYFARER EDITION
Editorial standards
EDITORIAL STANDARDS
What readers can expect from WAYFARER Edition, and what they can hold us to. These principles apply to every story, portrait and guide we publish.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made by editors, not by advertisers, partners or the people we write about. A commercial relationship never buys a review, a ranking, a quotation or a favourable angle. If an angle cannot be defended on the merits, it does not run.
Labelling
- Brand content. Stories made with a partner are marked BRAND CONTENT, with the partner named, at the top of the piece.
- Partner placements. Commercial placements on the home page and elsewhere are labelled as such.
- Invitations. When a hotel, airline, brand or destination covers or hosts part of a trip, we say so in the piece. Coverage that follows an invitation is held to the same independent criteria as any other.
- Affiliations. WAYFARER Edition belongs to WAYFARER GROUP, which also runs WAYFARER Agency. Where the agency has a relationship with a subject, we disclose it.
Accuracy and sourcing
We check names, dates, titles, figures and quotations before publishing. Interviews are reported from what was said, and a quotation is never altered to change its meaning. Where we rely on another publication, a press release or an official statement, we say so. Details that change quickly, such as prices, opening hours and availability, are dated or should be confirmed with the venue before you travel.
Translations and adaptations
Many portraits first appeared in Portuguese in WAYFARER Brasil. When we adapt a story for this edition, we translate it faithfully, add context for readers outside Brazil, and update facts that have changed. If a piece was written at an earlier date, an editor’s note at the top says so.
Portraits and interviews
Every portrait credits who conducted or wrote it. Interviewees do not approve copy before publication. We may check facts with them or their representatives, but the final text is ours.
Images and credits
We credit photographers and illustrators wherever the information is available. We do not alter photographs in ways that change their meaning. If you own an image on this site and the credit is missing or wrong, or you would like it removed, write to us and we will respond promptly.
Corrections
We correct factual errors as soon as we confirm them. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the story. To report an error, write to hello@wayfareredition.com with “Correction” in the subject line and the link to the story.
Updates
Stories are updated when facts change. Where an update is substantive, the date or an editor’s note says so.
Privacy of subjects
We write about people who have chosen to speak to us or whose work is publicly relevant. We do not publish private addresses, family details or personal data without consent.
Questions about any of this are welcome at hello@wayfareredition.com. See also Masthead, Contribute and Advertise.
