MM6 and Havaianas: a familiar sole multiplied

The runway preview used the number six to alter the outline and scale of a Brazilian everyday object.

MM6 and Havaianas: a familiar sole multiplied
MM6 Maison Margiela, Havaianas and Filippo Fior / Gorunway, via the WAYFARER Brazil archive.

An everyday object can remain recognisable after its proportions stop making sense. MM6 Maison Margiela’s Havaianas preview worked with that tension, using the number six as a rule for changing the flip-flop’s familiar construction.

WAYFARER Brazil’s September 2026 account described the Slim 6Toe, whose outline suggested a bare foot with an additional toe. Another runway object, the Top 6Layers, stacked six differently shaped soles into an uneven platform. The striped edge made the accumulation visible rather than concealing it inside a smooth silhouette.

The source distinguished the two propositions from an ordinary product release. It described the layered platform as a show piece, not an item intended for sale, while anticipating a later collection. That difference remains important. An experimental runway object need not be read as a practical promise about what someone will buy.

Rubber, strap and sole supplied enough shared memory for the intervention to remain intelligible. MM6 did not need to erase Havaianas to alter it. The collaboration’s interest lies in that persistence: at a distance, the object belongs to a known family; close up, a numerical rule has unsettled its most ordinary assumptions.
