A jacket becomes more interesting when it looks ready to be worn rather than merely photographed. At Pitti Uomo 109, WAYFARER’s January 2026 account found that idea running through the collections and the clothes outside the fair.

Florence’s Fortezza da Basso supplied the setting for buyers, designers and industry visitors examining autumn 2026 menswear. The report emphasised familiar pieces altered through fabric, cut and finish rather than conspicuous reinvention.

Workwear beside the tailored coat

Utility jackets, substantial boots and selvedge denim appeared alongside more relaxed tailoring. Vintage military references supplied another practical register, without every combination needing to become a full historical costume.

Grey, white, sage green and earth tones kept the colour field relatively restrained. Within that palette, proportion and texture could take on more of the work normally assigned to a striking shade.

The source read these details as an interest in a functional wardrobe. That is an editorial observation from the fair, not statistical proof of a permanent market-wide shift.

Its useful point is more immediate: tailoring can remain recognisable while its fit and companions change. A familiar silhouette does not need to be rigid, and practical clothing does not have to abandon attention to construction. The 2026 fair account placed those two ideas close together.
