A sphere changes almost every ordinary decision about a room. Eduardo Longo’s Casa Bola in São Paulo makes that architectural proposition habitable, carrying its curves into built-in furniture, lighting and the routes between levels.

Developed in the 1970s, the house began as a prototype for another way of arranging urban housing. Its suspended form sits above a more conventional building, allowing the experiment to remain visible within the city.

Aberto5’s programme from March to May 2026 connected that setting with artists including Luiz Zerbini, Laís Amaral and Paloma Bosquê. Drawings and models supplied another route into Longo’s thinking.

The house’s importance lies in the fact that an idea was tested through daily life. A radical form became somewhere to sleep, cook and gather, leaving architecture’s argument in the details of an inhabited space.
